What’s hot? BLD, TSG, MLK, BHO, ZDF and LAB

So what’s hot in these days?

Obviously, the main topic in the US is the upcoming presidential inauguration of “BHO” (Barack Hussein Obama). They say that he will use his full name (including the “Hussein”) during the inauguration ceremony. I want to see this ceremony, so I’ll drive to Washington on Monday, stay at a fellow from my scholarship organization and return to Newark on Wednesday.
By the way: I was too lazy to use another chance to see our new president: On Saturday Obama did a train ride from Philadelphia to Washington. He stopped in Wilmington where we fetched his designated vice president Joe Biden. Wilmington is just 15 miles away from here and the rail track goes through Newark, so Obama was here!!!
Tuesday will also be “BLD” (Bush’s Last Day) which might be a an upcoming world-wide holiday.

When talking of holidays, I’ve to mention “MLK” (Martin Luther King). Although he was born on Janury 15th, the national holiday is always on the third Monday of January. This year it’s Jan 19th 2009.

When looking over to Germany, “TSG” is another common three letter acronym. A social democrat called Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel just lost the Hessian election. Germany’s liberals got one of the best results since I started to care about politics. I liked that! And thanks to the ZDF live stream I could watch all the news footage! :-)

As the initial question was “What’s hot?”, I also have to mention our lab. The air conditioning system went mad and heated up our room to around 100°F. That’s somewhere between 35°C and 40°C, so we are now a “topless office”. Unfortunately we don’t have any girls in our lab ;-).
It seems to be rather common here to have problems with the air conditioning. In the summer Susi was telling me about the aircon doing exactly the opposite, like cooling down the room to about 50°F.
